NTCR data release flowchart
This page outlines the process for requesting information held within the Northern Territory Cancer Registry (NTCR).
Data requests can be grouped into 3 broad categories.
Aggregate data
Data is presented in summary or statistical format.
Note: NTCR approval is required for aggregate data.
Is this a request for Northern Territory (NT) data only?
- If Yes contact NTCR (details below) with your:
- completed aggregate data request form
- supporting documentation e.g. project proposal.
- If No, contact AIHW (details below):
- You will first need to develop data specifications with the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW).
- Once specifications are developed, contact NTCR with your AIHW data specification form and supporting documentation e.g. project proposal.
Unit record data
Each row contains details about a single person or case of cancer.
Note: NT chief health officer approval is required for unit record data.
Step 1: Is this a national cancer study?
- If Yes, contact AIHW, develop data specifications with AIHW then go to step 3.
- If No, go to step 2.
Step 2: Does the study involve matching with other NT or South Australia datasets?
- If Yes, contact NTCR, other data custodians or SANT DataLink may need to be included in your request.
- If No, go to step 3.
Step 3: Are you planning to report separately on NT or by Indigenous status?
- If Yes, you may require NT DoH/Menzies ethics approval (even if you have interstate or international ethics approval). Contact NTCR for advice, or email NTCR your:
- completed unit record data request form or AIHW data specification form
- ethics approval
- ethics application
- research protocol.
- If No, contact NTCR with your:
- completed unit record data request form or AIHW data specification form
- ethics approval
- ethics application
- research protocol.
Personal information about you or someone else (such as a relative)
Note: NT chief health officer approval is required for personal information.
