Health Statistics and Informatics
The Health Statistics and Informatics unit provides leadership in health statistics and analysis to improve:
- health service delivery and planning
- health outcomes
- prevention and wellbeing
- health equity in the NT.
Our objectives are to:
- Provide high quality statistics using robust data systems and replicable scientific methods.
- Produce reliable findings that support health policy and practise.
- Collaborate across government and other stakeholders to drive evidence-based policy.
- Manage and maintain statutory population registries (cancer and perinatal).
- Partner in research that improves health service delivery and population health outcomes.
- Provide advice on epidemiology, economics, statistical analysis and study/evaluation design for NT Health and other stakeholders.
NT Perinatal Registry (NTPR) and NT Cancer Registry (NTCR)
The NTPR maintains the registry of all mothers and babies born in the NT (Public and Environment Health Act 2011 (NT)). Read about the NT Perinatal Registry.
The NTCR collates and validates data on NT cancer cases and deaths (Cancer (Registration) Act 2009 (NT)). Read about the NT Cancer Registry.
Epidemiology and Demography
The Epidemiology team describes and examines the distribution of diseases and risk factors based on the collection of population data from hospital, primary health care, mortality, cancer, perinatal, population health surveys, and other sources.
Demography supports NT Health to make use of population data to inform health analysis and service delivery.
Health Economics
Health Economics undertakes analysis and provides advice to support the planning, delivery and evaluation of health services. The team is also responsible for updating and maintaining historical Department of Health data collections:
- patient demography
- health service utilisation
- morbidity and mortality
- economic
- geospatial
- disease information.
Health Informatics
Health Informatics provides decision support to health services and professionals in the NT to improve patient outcomes in Primary Health Care.
Health Innovation
Health Innovation work on strategic reform projects aligned with the NT Health Strategic Plan.
