Legislation
There are 2 pieces of legislation that aim to minimise the harms from alcohol consumption in the NT.
- Alcohol Harm Reduction Act, which provides for the Banned Drinker Register and its operations.

- Liquor Act, which regulates the sale, provision, promotion and consumption of liquor.

Alcohol restrictions
There are some places in the NT where alcohol is banned by law. For more information on alcohol restrictions and permits, go to the Northern Territory Government website.
Minimum unit pricing
The Liquor Legislation Amendment (Repeal of Minimum Pricing) Bill was passed on 11 February 2025 and will come into effect on 1 March 2025. From this date, there will no longer be a legal requirement to have a minimum floor price on alcohol.
