Vibrio

Vibrio bacteria are a family of bacteria that live in warm sea water, there are several species.

In the Northern Territory (NT), vibrio can be found in the Gulf of Carpentaria, near the Sir Edward Pellew Group and Limmen Bight.

Infection is through skin contact with contaminated water or eating or drinking contaminated food or water.

Notifiable disease

Invasive vibrio and food borne vibrio is a notifiable disease.
