Legionellosis
Legionella bacteria are found naturally in low levels in the environment. Legionellosis, also called Legionnaires' disease, is an uncommon but severe and sometimes life-threatening form of pneumonia, or lung inflammation caused by Legionella bacteria.
There are several species of Legionella, but the ones associated with human disease are Legionella pneumophila and Legionella longbeachae. Infection in humans is usually through inhaling contaminated air.
Notifiable disease
Legionellosis is a notifiable disease.
