Integrated Maternity Care

There are ongoing midwifery vacancies within the Northern Territory's (NT) Top End Integrated Maternity Care (TEIMC) team. The TEIMC is the overarching maternity service for women and their families in the Top End including the Katherine, Nhulunbuy (Gove) Darwin and their surrounding regions.

Royal Darwin Hospital

The Royal Darwin Hospital (RDH) is seeking Registered Midwives to join the Integrated Maternity Care team on a full-time or part-time basis. The RDH is a level 6 tertiary referral centre for the Top End of the NT. Services includes a Maternity Ward, a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit /Special Care Nursery, a Delivery Suite, a Birth Centre and a range of antenatal and postnatal services. The RDH also has a Team Midwifery Model for women with healthy pregnancies and a Midwifery Group Practice for women with vulnerable or high risk pregnancies, which includes women with normal risk pregnancies planning a Homebirth. The unit is accredited under the Baby Friendly Health Initiative.

The Royal Darwin Hospital Maternity Service is renowned for its professional development opportunities with Midwives across the service having access to contemporary education including perineal suturing, PROMPT, midwifery-led discharge and extended midwifery practice. Gove District Hospital

Full-time contracts of six to 12 months are available for registered midwives at Gove District Hospital (GDH) Maternity Unit. Midwives should have a minimum two years postgraduate midwifery experience including recent birthing experience.

The GDH Maternity Unit is a small eight-bed, low to medium risk unit, providing midwifery-led, woman-centred, antenatal, birthing, postnataland well-babycare to the families of East Arnhem and transient care of the unwell newborn. There is also a 4 bed self-care unit within the ward for women who have come from remote communities to await the birth of their baby. The unit is accredited under the Baby Friendly Health Initiative.

Katherine Hospital

The Maternity Unit at Katherine Hospital is seeking midwives to join their dynamic team. Subsidised on-site accommodation and a relocation allowance may be available.

The Katherine Maternity Unit is a small eight-bed, low to medium risk unit providing midwifery-led, woman-centred, antenatal, birthing, postnatal and well-baby care to the families of the Katherine region, with approximately 300 births per year.

Alice Springs Hospital

Alice Springs Hospital Maternity Unit has positions available for midwives with a minimum of one year post graduate experience.   Positions can be permanent or temporary and are flexible with regard to hours worked.

The Maternity Service has education opportunities including, but not limited, to perineal suturing, PROMPT, newborn discharge checks and midwifery-led discharge. There are opportunities to work in remote communities and all staff work in a unit that has antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care integrated.

The unit has 16 beds, with four birth suites and three boarder beds. We have a full time Lactation Consultant and fulltime domiciliary service.  Alice Springs Hospital has midwifery led antenatal clinics and a Midwifery Group Practice and is a Level 5 service.
