Working together to improve mental health services

Published

NT Health has released its NT Mental Health Lived Experience Engagement Framework.

The Framework will support community and mental health services in the NT in co-designing services with Territorians with experiences of mental illness.

The term 'lived experience' is used to represent the diverse experiences of people affected by suicide, mental illness, and related issues including trauma or alcohol and other drug use.

The Framework outlines the expectation that all clinical and non-clinical community, health and mental health services will use inclusive engagement pathways to ensure that people who have lived experience of mental health issues are recognised as integral to service design and achieving health outcomes.

People with lived experience of using the NT's mental health system have the right to be recognised, respected and included in policy decision making.

The Framework will ensure future mental health and suicide prevention services are meaningful, culturally safe, respectful and accessible.
