Learn more about our Katherine Hospital Outpatient Clinic staff.

Meet Celia, an Aboriginal Health Practitioner in the Outpatient Clinic at Katherine Hospital.

Celia was born in Katherine but spent several years working across Australia in various Aboriginal community controlled health organisations.

“I’d been away for a while and thought it was time to come home to be near family. I also wasn’t that keen on Port Hedland - it was too dry! So I thought I’d come back to the rivers,” she said.

Working in the outpatient clinic, Celia supports a range of specialist clinics such as Cardiology and Ophthalmology. Her days are varied and include anything from running specialist blood tests or ECGs to dressing wounds or fitting halter monitors.

"There's so much variety in the work, there is always something different depending on which clinic is on. Working with the specialists all the time you start to learn more about the specialities and become familiar with their jargon."

Patients who visit the outpatient clinic have access to a variety of treatments. They also run outreach trips once a month, visiting 4 to 5 communities in the Big Rivers region.

"It's great getting out to the communities to provide these services. I also really enjoy being able to catch up with family," she said.
