Aries, our prostate cancer specialist nurse at Royal Darwin Hospital

Did you know around 100 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in the NT each year?

Meet Aries, our prostate cancer specialist nurse at Royal Darwin Hospital. Aries supports patients with their diagnoses and treatment with funding from @Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia and @Northern Territory Government. Aries is always determined to raise awareness for early detection, and especially this Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

“Some people view prostate cancer testing as less masculine. Erasing the stigma is important because testing helps you to better understand your health status and increases the chance of early detection and cure! The stigma stops men from getting tested, but avoiding testing can lead to a worse diagnosis when the cancer has advanced," said Aries.

"Early detection leads to better health outcomes and more quality time with family and friends. As a specialist nurse I am here to support and guide you, especially through tough decisions. Let’s remove the barriers and encourage more people to get tested early!”

Early detection saves lives, with more than 95% of men who receive a diagnosis of early prostate cancer likely to survive the next 5 years.

If you are a male over 50, or over 40 with a family history of prostate cancer, you should discuss prostate cancer testing with your doctor.
