Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners Scholarships
Applications for the 2020 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners (ATSIHP) Scholarships will open on Monday, 10 February 2020.
The Department of Health is committed to building the capacity of the Aboriginal Health Practitioner workforce. The ATSIHP Scholarship Scheme contributes to this objective and provides financial support to Aboriginal Health Practitioner students.
Scholarship funding provides students with $5,000 per year over two years of study for the Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice) (HLT40213).
- Scholarship closes 4pm, Monday 9 March 2020.
Eligibility
- Full time students currently studying or about to commence the Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice) (HLT40213).
- On completion of study, eligible to register with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia as a qualified; Aboriginal health practitioner; and/or Torres Strait Islander health practitioner; and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioner.
- Be a resident of the Northern Territory.
- Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.

NT Health Aboriginal Scholarship Scheme - First Year Undergraduate Students
The Department of Health is committed to building the Aboriginal health professional workforce and has launched NT Health Aboriginal Scholarship Scheme – 1st Year Undergraduate Students.
There are five scholarships available, worth up to $5000 each to assist eligible Aboriginal students undertaking their first year of an undergraduate health degree.
- Applications open on Monday 2 March 2020.
- Applications close at 4pm, Monday 30 March 2020.
Eligibility
The NT Department of Health encourages Aboriginal students aspiring to work in the following occupations to apply:
- Registered Nurse
- Registered Midwife
- Pharmacist
- Speech Pathologist
- Occupational Therapist
- Audiologist
- Public Health Nutritionist / Dietitian
- Psychologist
- Social Worker
- Environmental Health Officer
- Physiotherapist
- Prosthetist / Orthotist
- Medical Laboratory Scientist
- Podiatrist
- Medical Radiation Practitioner
- Sonographer
- Radiographer
- Dental Therapist
The Department also welcomes applications from students with career aspirations to work in the field of mental health as a health professional.
An applicant is eligible for the award of the scholarship, if the applicant is:
- a person of Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent who identifies as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is accepted as an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander in the community in which they live, or has lived
- an Australian citizen
- an NT resident and is enrolled to study their first undergraduate degree in the NT
- enrolled to study full-time of four units per semester or equivalent
- not working full-time.

NT Health Aboriginal Cadetship Program
The Department of Health offers an NT Health Aboriginal Cadetship Program to support Aboriginal people to complete higher education health studies and is a key initiative to increasing employment of Aboriginal people as health professionals.
The program is designed to assist eligible Aboriginal students undertaking their first undergraduate degree or postgraduate studies to gain professional health qualifications and experience that will lead to entry to practice upon completion of their studies.
