Get tested for COVID-19

In the Northern Territory (NT), rapid antigen tests (RATs) are used to confirm a positive diagnosis of COVID-19.

If you test positive to a RAT you must immediately declare your result.

Where to get a RAT test

Free RATs are available from a number of participating GP clinics, remote and urban primary health clinics and Aboriginal health clinics across the Northern Territory. They can also be purchased from pharmacies and supermarkets.

Locations offering free RATs are listed below.

Supplies are provided for immediate use only. Large supplies for future use will not be provided.

Read more about travel to and from the NT.

PCR testing

Consider having a PCR test if you:

  • are a close contact who can't access a RAT
  • have had negative RATs but still have symptoms
  • have recently returned from overseas and develop symptoms within 7 days of arriving in Australia.

You can book a COVID-19 test through private providers including your local GP, the Palmerston GP Super Clinic or Western Diagnostic Pathology.

Frontline healthcare and aged care workers who are required to have a PCR test can book online. The general community is not able to book through this system.

You will receive your result via an automated text message.
