Gonococcal conjunctivitis
Gonococcal conjunctivitis is a highly contagious eye infection caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It can arise in several different situations. It can be transmitted by contact of the eyes with infected genital secretions from a person with genital gonorrhea infection. Babies of women with genital gonorrhoea can be infected at birth (gonococcal ophthalmia neonatorum).
Notifiable disease
Gonococcal conjunctivitis and neonatal gonococcal ophthalmia are a notifiable disease.
