Primary Health Care Nurses Day!

Published

On 7 February, we celebrated Primary Health Care Nurses Day across the Territory.

Casuarina and Palmerston Community Care Clinics hosted lunches for staff to highlight their careers, journey, patients and overall impact the profession has had in our community.

Leanne Vincent, is a veteran Community Care Nurse, with over 33 years’ experience in NT Health, described her role in the community as opportunistic, preventative health education.

“Community health is all about empowering clients. Giving them the education that they need to make those choices for their health and keeping them out of hospital,” she said. “The beauty is that you see a little bit of everything, and your clinical skills are used every day."

Kelsey Marady, is a new graduate nurse that has taken on a fulfilling career in Primary Health. Kelsey was drawn to community care because she liked the idea of being able to help people in the comfort of their homes, as opposed to a foreign place like a hospital.

“I felt like this is the area to create the most change and positive impact to their lives,” she said.

Kristen Edinborough, is a Clinical Nurse Specialist works across both Child and Family Health and the Adult Community Health Team finds her passion in working with First Nations people and the continuity of care that Primary Health Nursing provides.

“It’s rewarding to celebrate healthcare wins with clients and being a part of keeping them out of the acute health care system through education, health promotion and providing preventative healthcare services” she said.

All three love having the opportunity to work in a team of passionate nurses that learn from each other. Watching client progression and seeing them be able to continue to live their life in their home and be healthy, is also very rewarding.

We also want to highlight the Health Promoting School Nurses that work within the school community to provide quality school based youth services incorporating a Primary Health Care and Health Promotion philosophy and principles that maintain, facilitate, and promote the physical, emotional, and social health of young people.

Thank you to all our Primary Health Care Nurses across the Territory for making such an impact in our community.
