Terms of reference

The alcohol reference group is an advisory group comprised of members from stakeholder groups and organisations with an interest in alcohol management and reducing alcohol related harms in Tennant Creek.

The Tennant Creek alcohol management plan focuses on supply, demand and harm reduction strategies to address alcohol issues which impact on the whole township of Tennant Creek.

The primary role of the alcohol reference group is to provide community and industry expertise, advice and input into the development, implementation monitoring, and review of the Tennant Creek alcohol management plan. The alcohol reference group does not have any formal advocacy role due to its disparate representation.

The alcohol reference group will be chaired by an independent Chair and comprise a core membership that will be appointed by invitation from the minister.

Others may attend if approved by a minimum of eight of the ten members. The Chair will be the only public spokesperson for the ARG, unless the Chair seeks consensus for another alcohol reference group member to act as a spokesperson on his or her behalf. Terms of reference and membership will be reviewed every two years, with the first review to be undertaken by March 2016.

The alcohol reference group will meet at least quarterly and the quorum will be half of the membership plus one.

Decisions will be made by consensus and where agreement cannot be met, a vote will be taken with a minimum of eight of the ten members having to agree. Records of meetings will be published and made publicly available.
