Australia is closely monitoring an outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a novel (new) coronavirus first identified in Wuhan, Hubei Province, China.
There are no confirmed or suspected cases in the Northern Territory.
The NT Department of Health is monitoring the situation and is ready to increase response activities if and when it is needed.
Australia has well-established procedures to ensure people with illnesses travelling into the country are detected at the border.
Australia already requires passengers who show signs of an infectious disease, including fever, sweats or chills to be met by biosecurity officers for assessment on arrival.
Information on novel coronavirus is being provided to passengers and crews of flights and vessels entering Australia.
We work closely with state and territory Chief Health Officers and the Federal Chief Medical Officer to ensure we coordinate an evidence based response in Australia.
