Human research ethics committee
The Northern Territory (NT) Department of Health sponsors two Human Research Ethics Committees which work together to provide ethical review for all health related research conducted in the NT. One committee has primary duty to the Top End, one to Central Australia.
These Committees are registered with the National Health Medical Research Council (NHMRC).

Top End Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC)
The Top End Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) supports the research activities of the NT Department of Health in its northern zone, and the Menzies School of Health Research.
The HREC also considers applications submitted by non-government health providers working across the Top End of the Northern Territory.
For advice on applying, or providing your feedback go to the Menzies School of Health Research website.
Central Australian Human Research Ethics Committee (CAHREC)
Who should apply?
CAHREC is one of two NT Department of Health ethics committees. It operates under the auspices of the Centre for Remote Health, and considers applications for all human research being conducted in the Southern and Barkly regions of the Northern Territory.
CAHREC only undertakes ethical review for research sites located within the Northern Territory. For research being conducted in the adjoining tristate areas (AP Lands of South Australia or the Ngaanyatjarra lands of Western Australia), ethical reviews are undertaken by either the "Aboriginal Health Research Ethics Committee" (AHREC) of South Australia or the "WA Aboriginal Health Ethics Committee" for Western Australia.
