Rural generalist positions at Tennant Creek Hospital
Tennant Creek township is located 510 km north of Alice Springs. There are 3200 people in Tennant Creek and about 7500 in the Barkly region. Tennant Creek Hospital (TCH) is a 20-bed acute care hospital that offers challenging remote work for medical practitioners. The Emergency Department sees 14,000 patients per annum. There are General and Paediatric wards for the care of patients with short term acute illness’ and injury, plus a nurse-run 16 chair renal dialysis unit. Patients requiring advanced care are generally transferred by road or by air to Alice Springs Hospital.
Registrar positions are available to applicants with a strong interest in Rural and Remote Health and a desire to become a Rural Generalist. Training positions are through either RACGP or ACRRM, facilitated by NTGPE (RACGP or ACRRM) and RVTS (RACGP or ACRRM) or through the Independent Pathway (ACRRM). TCH has modern videoconferencing facilities to allow networked medical education delivered by NT Department of Health, Flinders University, and other providers.
Specialist positions are available for Rural Generalists with Fellowship of either ACRRM or RACGP. Applicants must have Rural/Remote medical experience. Ideally RACGP Fellows have completed their FARGP (Fellowship in Advanced Rural General Practice).
