Radiographers commenced regulation under the Health Practitioners Act on 01 July 2010.

As of 1 July 2010 radiographers in the Northern Territory were regulated in accordance with the Health Practitioners Act 2004 (NT). Therefore, as of that date those applying for registration and renewing their registration in the Northern Territory will be required to meet more requirements than had applied under the Radiographers Act.
Information relating to key aspects of this new process of regulation of radiographers is available in the Board's policies and guidelines and the Health Practitioners Act. Key changes include, but are not limited to:
- That the Board is constituted by 3 radiographers and 2 public members;
- Post Degree Year radiographers must hold conditional registration in the Northern Territory prior to commencing practice in this jurisdiction;
- Recency of Practice requirements apply (refer to the Recency of Practice Policy);
- Overseas trained radiographers must meet the Board's English language requirements prior to being entitled to registration;
- The requirement for employers to notify the Board if a radiographer's employment has been terminated or suspended because of alleged or actual misconduct or incompetence to practise;
- Those who do not renew registration by the expiry date (30 September) stated on their Annual Practising Certificates, are not authorised to practise in the Northern Territory until such time as their names have been restored to the Register. The Restoration period is 30 days. If practitioners do not restore their names to the Register in this period, they will be required to make new applications for registration under the Health Practitioners Act.
Radiographers Board Announcement - November 2009
As of 5 October 2009 the Radiographers Board of the Northern Territory no longer be issuing a permit to conduct radiographic procedures. This is now the responsibility of the Radiation Protection Section of the Department of Health (with the exception of Diagnostic Radiographers who are to contact the Radiographers Register, see note below).
Dentists, Dental Therapists, Dental Hygienists, Chiropractors, Medical Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Postgraduate Radiographers Year 1 and others, who are required to conduct radiographic procedures and who do not hold a current permit or license, are advised to either refer to the following website:

Role
The Radiographers Board of the Northern Territory is a statutory body responsible for ensuring the public is protected through the regulation of Radiographers registered in the Northern Territory.
The Radiographers Board carries out this mandate by:
- Ensuring that all radiographers have received educational preparation to an agreed national standard;
- Dealing with issues of conduct and taking any disciplinary action as required;
- Administering the framework under which impaired radiographers can be rehabilitated without necessarily losing their license to practice;
- Assisting to improve radiographer's performance should it be found to be below accepted professional standards, and
- Ensuring that all radiographers either currently registered or seeking to be registered are competent and fit to practise.
The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency- NT Office (AHPRA-NT) provides a bureau service to the Radiographers Board and carries out administrative duties as directed by it.
The objectives of the Health Practitioners Act 2004 (the Act) requires the Radiographers Board to:
- Protect and promote the health and safety of the people of the Territory;
- Promote the highest standard of professional health care practice in the Territory;
- Determine the standards for Registration and enrolment of health practitioners and for professional health care practice in the Territory, and
- Facilitate the continuing competence of health practitioners in the Territory.

Radiographers Register
The register identifies registrants as having full registration or conditional registration.
Conditional registration means that there are some restrictions on the person's practice. Such restrictions are diverse in nature and further information about the conditions applying to a particular registrant can be obtained by contacting us.
