H1N1 Human Swine Flu Vaccine

The human swine flu vaccine (Panvax) is now available for anyone 10 years of age and over.

The vaccination program initially focuses on those at higher risk of exposure such as health care and community workers and those vulnerable to severe outcomes of infection such as:

  • pregnant women
  • adults and children (10 years and older) who have underlying chronic medical conditions such as
    • chronic respiratory disease including asthma
    • diabetes
    • chronic heart disease
    • chronic kidney disease
    • cancer
    • immunosuppression (eg HIV infection)
    • chronic liver disease
    • chronic neurological disease
  • moderate to severe obesity with a body mass index (BMI) over 35
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • parents and carers of babies younger than 6 months
  • children (10 years and older) in special schools.

Where can I get my vaccine?

The vaccine is available at:

  • some GP surgeries
  • remote health centres
  • Aboriginal Medical Services
  • special vaccination clinics in some urban areas.
