Gove District Hospital is a 30 bed hospital providing Medical, Surgical, Paediatric, Obstetric and Emergency services to the mining town of Nhulunbuy and the remote Aboriginal communities of East Arnhem Land.
Medical Officers have a combined hospital and District Medical Officer (DMO) role. This includes a primary health care role, visits to remote Aboriginal communities, 24 hour phone advice service to the District, and managing medical evacuations.. Shared positions are also available to allow combined employment with the local Indigenous health services. Some GP Registrars may be asked to visit remote Aboriginal Health Clinics for two days per week as part of their supervised training.
Gove District Hospital (GDH) is increasing its intake of GP Registrars with preference given to Registrars who have Anaesthetic credentials, Advanced Diploma in Obstetrics, or GP Surgical credentials. Most Medical Officers employed have at least four years postgraduate training, including experience in Paediatrics and emergency medicine. GPs prepared to assist in supervision of GP Registrars are also encouraged to apply.
