Centralian shoppers support kids in hospital

Young patients at Alice Springs Hospital can look forward to a more comfortable hospital stay thanks to the Woolworths Fresh Food Kids Hospital Appeal.

Woolworths staff and the local community raised more than $5000 for the hospital during the annual appeal, held over an eight-week period in August and September 2011.

Acting Executive Director of the Central Australian Hospital Network, Mike Melino, said the continued fundraising efforts by Woolworths were a great boost for the paediatric ward at Alice Springs Hospital.

"Woolworths staff worked hard during the appeal, with many of them volunteering their personal time to sell raffle tickets at the store," Mr Melino said.

The support of Woolworths' customers is also reflected in the amount donated during the appeal. On behalf of all Alice Springs Hospital staff and young patients we say a heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated."

Last year's donation enabled the purchase of a flat screen television with built-in DVD player for the paediatric treatment room, as well as four recliner chairs for parents to remain by their child's bedside. This year Alice Springs Hospital will put the money towards further enhancing the hospital experience for children and their families.

Nationally, the annual Woolworths Fresh Food Kids Hospital Appeal raised more than $8 million for medical equipment, facilities and research in Australian children's hospitals and wards.
