The Northern Territory Government recognises that people with a disability need extra support to participate as citizens within their communities. Disability support provision is based on contemporary practice underpinned by partnerships and collaborative approaches. Principles that guide services include: person centred, culture secure, collaborative, outcomes driven, future focused, equitable, sustainable, flexible and responsive. The Government's vision is for a society where people with disabilities have productive and fulfilling lives as valued members of their communities. The NT Disability Review provides the framework for reform.
2012 NT Disability Services Awards
The Disability services Awards recognise and reward the achievements of disability sector employees and mainstream services and/or businesses that have demonstrated outstanding commitment to improving the lives of people with disability.
The Award winners were announced by the Health Minister David Tollner MLA at a ceremony at Parliament House by on 3 December 2012 which coincided with International Day of People with Disability.
The winners for each category are:
- Disability Sector Employee (non-Government) - Adrian Riessen
- Disability Sector Employee (Government) - Judy Grant
- Mainstream Service/Business (non-Government) - NT Automotive Group (Darwin Hyundai)
- Mainstream Service/Business (Government) - Opportunity Knocks Op Shop
